[Tangerang Selatan, 24 Februari 2023] – Universitas Terbuka (UT) Accounting Study Program successfully held a Visiting Professor program on “Fraud Mitigation and Ethics in the Public Sector” with Prof. Dr. Nafsiah Mohamed from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia as the keynote speaker. The program was held on Friday, 24th February 2023, and was attended by UT lecturers and students, especially the UT Accounting Study Program.
The event aimed to support academic activities and encourage internationalization by providing new insights to lecturers and students. The topic of the event, fraud and ethics in the public sector, is a crucial area in accounting science. The public sector is a sensitive sector to fraud, given that public funds are at stake. Therefore, fraud mitigation measures are crucial to identify and prevent fraudulent activity, which could result in financial loss or damage to the reputation of public institutions. In addition, ethical considerations are important in fraud prevention to ensure that public officials act with integrity, honesty, and transparency.
Prof. Dr. Nafsiah Mohamed is a renowned expert in public sector accounting who shared her expertise in the field with the participants. She provided insights into identifying and preventing fraudulent activities, such as establishing internal controls, conducting regular audits and risk assessments, and implementing training and awareness programs. Prof. Dr. Nafsiah Mohamed also highlighted the importance of ethical considerations in fraud mitigation by creating a code of ethics, providing ethics training to employees, and creating an environment that promotes transparency and accountability.
The program was moderated by Ni Wayan Marsha Satyarini, S.ST., M. Par. and was hosted by Sila Ninin Wisnantiasri, S.E., M.A., Ak., CA. The event was held both in-person at the Auditorium FST and virtually on Zoom Meeting. The program included a registration session, opening remarks, a welcoming speech by Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Dr. Meirani Harsasi, S.E., M.Si., an introduction of the speaker, the keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Nafsiah Mohamed, and a Q&A session. The program concluded with a closing remark by the host and the presentation of a plaque by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Dr. Meirani Harsasi, S.E., M.Si., to Prof. Dr. Nafsiah Mohamed as a token of appreciation for her contribution to the program.

Overall, the Visiting Professor program was a success and provided valuable insights on fraud mitigation and ethics in the public sector. The UT Accounting Study Program hopes to continue hosting such programs in the future to enhance the quality of education for its students and lecturers.
